Teams are poor judges of their own websites. Everyone internally already knows where things are, what the product is called, and what the abbreviations mean — which is exactly why internal debate about usability rarely settles anything.
Usability testing settles it by watching people who are not on your team attempt the tasks that matter: find a service, request a quote, complete a form, locate a document. Where they hesitate and where they give up is the finding.

What is UX research?+
UX research is the practice of gathering evidence about how people use a website or application — through interviews, journey analysis, and task-based testing — so design decisions rest on observation rather than assumption.
What is usability testing?+
Usability testing asks representative participants to complete specific tasks on a site while their behavior is observed. Where they hesitate, take a wrong path, or abandon the task identifies the problems worth fixing.
How many people need to be tested?+
A small number of participants typically reveals most major usability problems, because the same obstacles recur quickly. Larger studies are useful when comparing options or measuring changes.
Can research be done before a site is built?+
Yes. Testing wireframes or prototypes is common and valuable, because structural problems can be corrected before design and development effort is spent on them.
How much does UX research and usability testing cost?+
UX research cost depends on the method and the number of participants — a handful of moderated usability sessions is a contained engagement, while multi-method research across several audiences is larger. Participant incentives are a separate cost. Coco Design scopes research around the questions you need answered.
How long does usability testing take?+
The testing itself is short; recruiting the right participants is usually the longest part of the schedule. Findings are typically reported soon after the final session, while the details are still specific rather than generalized.
How do we get started with UX research?+
Start by naming the decision the research needs to inform — which checkout step loses people, whether the new navigation is understandable, why a form gets abandoned. Coco Design also needs access to your site and analytics, and help reaching people who resemble your actual users.
Do we need usability testing if we already have analytics?+
Analytics tell you what happened; usability testing tells you why. Knowing that 60 percent of visitors abandon a form is useful, but only watching someone attempt it reveals that the required field they cannot see is what stops them.
Does Coco Design provide ux research outside Pensacola?+
Yes. Coco Design is a web design and digital marketing firm based in downtown Pensacola, Florida, and provides ux research and usability testing for businesses and organizations throughout the United States. Projects run remotely by phone, video call, and shared review links, and clients in the Pensacola area are welcome to meet at the Palafox Place office.
