Web App Launch: Assess Aptitude Brings Fast Pre-Employment Testing to Small Businesses

We recently launched Assess Aptitude, a pre-employment testing platform born out of a direct need in the dental industry. What started as a custom solution for one client's hiring bottleneck grew into a full software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform built for growing businesses everywhere. It's one of our favorite recent projects, and it shows the kind of work we love most: partnering with a client to turn a real-world headache into a clean, dependable product.

The Problem

The project began when a dental client came to us with a familiar challenge. In dentistry, attention to detail, quick thinking, and reliable communication matter every single day. A bad hire in a practice costs months of lost productivity, stress on the team, and disruptions to patient care. The practice needed an objective, dependable way to see how candidates think and solve problems before bringing them in for lengthy interviews.

The trouble was that existing testing tools were built for giant corporate HR departments. They came with rigid annual contracts, heavy sales pitches, and complex software that a busy doctor or office manager simply doesn't have time to learn. Off-the-shelf software wasn't working, so we teamed up to build Assess Aptitude from the ground up: a streamlined, fair testing platform designed for the practical pace of a dental office and ready for any growing business.

What the Platform Does

• A timed 12-minute cognitive test that measures problem solving, reasoning, and attention to detail.
• A behavioral profile that adds context about how a candidate tends to work.
• Access codes the employer sends to each candidate, so there are no accounts for applicants to create.
• A scored candidate report ready in minutes, as soon as the test is finished.
• Simple monthly plans with a free trial, so businesses can try it before they commit.

From Client Need to SaaS Product

Many software products start in an office where someone says, "There has to be a better way to do this." That was the case here. Once we designed the testing flow and automated scoring for our client, the bigger opportunity was clear: other practices and small businesses were dealing with the exact same hiring friction.

Rather than stopping at an internal office tool, we built Assess Aptitude as a complete commercial product. That meant adding self-service account creation, candidate access codes that work without applicant logins, automated scoring reports, and flexible monthly subscriptions with a free trial.

How We Built It

The candidate side had to feel calm and clear. Someone taking a timed test is already a little nervous, so we kept the screens clean, the questions easy to read, and the timer visible without being distracting. It works just as well on a phone as it does on a laptop.

The employer side needed to be just as easy. Owners can issue codes, track who has finished, and read results without any training. Behind the scenes, the platform handles scoring, reports, subscriptions, and account management on its own.

This is the heart of our custom web development work. Good software starts with understanding the people using it, then building something that gets out of their way. Careful web design and early wireframing made sure every screen had one clear job.
